Calgary International Flamenco Festival - September 23– 29, 2012

World-class performers ignite the 2nd annual Calgary International Flamenco Festival from September 23– 29, 2012.

A week-long celebration of flamenco music, dance, passionate expression and innovative performances – this is the flamenco event of the year. Bringing together top Spanish artists with Canadian performers, the festival features workshops and concert events including the breathtaking dancer from Madrid, Manuel Liñan on September 28th 8 pm, at the University Theatre.

Also coming from Spain are Guitarist Liron Man and Elena Morales, featured in “Concierto Flamenco” on Monday September 24th. Highlights include guest Canadian dancer Maria Regnier and fusion of the unique melodic percussion instrument: the Hang Drum. In the “Flamenco Showcase” on Saturday September 29th, many talents from around the province unite in a dynamic collaborative performance at the popular downtown venue, The Auburn.

Dr. Compás Flamenco Metronome App

Dr. Compás is a metronome app which uses real palmas & cajon to create rhythm tracks with adjustable tempos. Includes a range of common palos with an "improvise" function which gives a dynamic feel. Great for practicing singing, dance, palmas & guitar.

Flamenco Dresses and Skirts for Sale

Flamenco Workshop - Deborah Ibach - June 2012


Flamenco workshops with Deborah Ibach:
June 20, 21, 22  (W/Th/F)  and
June 26, 27, 28   (T/W/Th)

Beginner – Intermediate (1st hour each day):   
New this year !
For the Beginner to Beginner-Intermediate level dancer.
Note: Some previous flamenco experience is required.
Technique / Choreography (Colombianas)

Bata de Cola workshop (2nd hour each day):
Targeted to the dancer at Intermediate level or higher.
Previous bata experience not required.
Content tailored to needs of the class.

Note: although it is obviously preferable to have a bata, it is not a requirement for the class. If you do not have a bata, try bringing a regular pair of sports ankle weights to the class (as they are useful to increase strength and simulate the weight of the bata).

Intermediate-Advanced  Technique/Choreography
